We are delighted to invite you to join us at the 2009 APL & SGD Autumn Workshop which will be held at Capel Manor College on Thursday 17 September 2009.

This is the third year that this event has been organised and, after the huge success of the last two years when over 150 attended, this year’s workshop looks set to challenge, inspire and above all enthuse delegates even more. Quality…what is it and how do you achieve it? is another excellent opportunity for APL and SGD members to get together to listen to, compare and share ideas and experiences.

Well-known leading and award winning designers and contractors have kindly agreed to share their thoughts and experiences at the event. We can look forward to a mixture of light-hearted, honest accounts of the successes and challenges that designers and contractors regularly face and hard hitting reports on current issues including vertical wall gardens. As with last year there will be plenty of opportunity for questions and answers during the day.

10.30             Welcome and introduction from Andrew Wilson, Wilson McWilliam Associates (Chief Assessor & RHS Show Judge)

                       What Is Quality? - Mark Gregory, Landform Consultants (APL Vice-Chairman) will interview Luciano Gubbilei, designer of the Laurent Perrier Garden at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show on his perception of quality

                      Contracts – From Start To Finish - Jason Lock, CEO of the APL will give a whistle-stop tour of a typical contract – where things can go wrong, where to be the most careful and why a good contract makes good business sense

                      Andrew Wilson of Wilson McWilliam Associates will discuss quality and then chair a panel discussion which will question a number of leading designers and contractors on their views of quality and how it is measured

13.30             Introduction to the afternoon session from Adam Frost of New Ground Landscapes (APL Chairman)

                      The Ins And Outs Of An Award Winning Garden - David Sewell of The Gardenmakers (2009 APL Supreme Award Winner) will talk about his views on quality, his experience of creating an award winning garden and what role that played in winning the prestigious APL Supreme Award

                      The Uses Of Green Walls - Mike Cottage , Technical Sales Director at Greenfix Sky-Garden, which provides Green Roofs, Living Walls and Sedum Roofs, will focus on the use of green walls, their properties, and how to avoid problems with a clearer understanding of how they work

                      Garden Tour - Steve Dowbiggin OBE, CEO at Capel Manor College will introduce a tour of the many beautiful gardens at Capel Manor
